The Marketing Clinic
Back to Work Marketing Brunch
Tuesday 8th January, 10.00am – 12 noon
The first week in January and the second run of our Back to Work Brunch event – designed to help business owners take those first steps into another year of doing business. Or even their first year of doing business, in the case of one of our attendees this morning. One of my favourite aspects of these quarterly discussion sessions is the great mix of people taking part, all able to share their unique experience and insight.
While our copy, design, and marketing surgeries are an opportunity to get specific advice tailored to meet your individual business needs, the Back to Work Brunch is a relaxed event with the added benefit of peer support. The Marketing Clinic team are on hand to answer your questions, with the discussion fuelled by tea, coffee and pastries.
Topics varied, such as where and how to start promoting a brand new business, honing your message for a different customer group and even print alternatives to traditional business cards. Familiar themes came and went, from choosing the right social media platform to writing a manageable content plan. More often than not we found ourselves returning to the question – who is my ideal client, what do they need me to say and do, and how can I present myself in a way that is easy for them to understand.
A Few Takeaways from the Winter Back to Work Marketing Brunch
We won’t always get it right first time – what matters is that we learn from our mistakes.
Our marketing message becomes clearer as we gain experience and confidence in our business.
The thing we do might not be the initial reason people choose to buy from us
Different clients respond to different messages, adjust your approach accordingly.
If someone chooses not to buy from it’s not personal – it might be the wrong time for them, or perhaps you’re just not quite the right fit.
Understanding the customer journey before and after buying will help you to deliver more of what they need at the right time
Sometimes visibility is as much about bravery as it is about tips and techniques
If you want to work with someone, reach out. It won’t happen by accident.
If everyone else in your industry is turning right – turn left.
Work out what you are trying to achieve, then how you can get the right message across, then how best to present this message to your audience.
Every Marketing Clinic brings new ideas and insight not only for the businesses who attend but also for my own business. In the busy and sometimes overwhelming life of self-employment, often the most useful time is spent in the company of others experiencing similar challenges. Between the expert in the room and a few seasoned entrepreneurs, you will almost always find an answer to your challenge.
The next Back to Work Brunch is scheduled for Tuesday 7th April. In the meantime, Marketing Clinic sessions can be booked for one the first Tuesday of the month between 10.00am and 5 pm.
